This piece sets out to capture intense excitement and energy. The idea came about one day while walking around my college campus. I had just receive some very exciting news, and instantly my heart rate increased, my blood became hot, and it felt like I had electricity coursing through my veins. I walked around in sort of half skips and random dashes trying to contain myself.
In order to capture this musically, I wanted to use intense arpeggiations in all three of the instruments. This idea eventually pans out into a moment where it’s just the violin “shredding” while utilizing these arpeggios. There is also a heavy usage of a 4:3 polyrhythm (my favorite one). This has the effect of dicing the measure up in an exciting and groovy way. I lot of this piece really doesn’t have a melodic theme. It’s all very gestural and motivic, and my intention with this was to capture a sense of raw energy, unconfined at times.
