Bleeding Hearts
It’s hard to describe the feeling of unity that one feels when sharing vulnerable parts of your soul, especially with friends. The closest description I can come up with is a feeling of devastating empathy. This piece conveys this idea, and is inspired by personal experiences of friends sitting together, and letting our hearts “bleed out” to reveal what is really inside. I imagine that the hearts sort of bleed into the center and form a pond for us all to observe and bathe in, and we come out of the interaction much more fulfilled than before.
Compositionally, this led me to craft a piece that has a sense of vulnerability, that turns to strength, and then back again to vulnerable. There are intricate lines which intersect and bleed into each other, as if they are communicating. This creates a dense texture that is reminiscent of filigree; to me, this conveys how beauty and strength can be surfaced from troubling thoughts and past traumas.
