This piece is a study in energy / momentum and maintaining it from start to finish. I use the first four notes of the diminished scale as a primary motif — it occurs in many different temporalities. It’s expressed horizontally and vertically at different times, and if you were to study the score, you would notice this four-note idea infecting the whole structure of the piece. The music’s rhythmic intensity, coupled with novel “FX” and repetition, come together to create an experience that is equally thrilling as it is disorienting and brutal, like riding on the back of a lightning bolt.
